“Some time in the dim and distant past, though really about 2006, a bunch of musical minded friends decided to promote some live music in Swindon and arrange a little musical gathering for some of their favourite bands. Today those two ideas have become Songs Of Praise and The Swindon Shuffle both of which celebrate their tenth anniversary this year. There will be coverage of the Shuffle as we get a bit nearer to it but on 2nd June at The Victoria you can be part of the gathering to celebrate one of the local success stories in Swindon’s original music scene.

Having begun as a monthly show at The Victoria, Songs of Praise in the last few years has added regular slots at The Roaring Donkey, The Locomotive, Baila Coffee and Vinyl and The Castle with occasional gigs at Level 3 and The Beehive, usually averaging around 4 shows a week.

And, like the Shuffle, the SOP promotional team has an always-evolving crew steering it through these choppy musical waters, proving that it is the idea behind the shows and not the people, which is the driving factor.

The 10th anniversary celebrations include bands with close links to the shows, people who have been part of the team, regular bookings or just strong supporters.

Port Erin bring their strange, psychedelic soulfulness meets proggy melodic rock, Raze*Rebuild add some punky Americana to the proceedings, The King In Mirrors offer a dash of post-punk jangle and Canute’s Plastic Army open the night with some lovely intricate folk-pop.”
